Advanced registration is not required, but is very helpful. If you have not pre-preregistered, please arrive about 10 minutes early to do so. Download our app from Fitli to register and sign up for classes in advance.

What should I wear and what should I bring?

For your first yoga class, be sure to bring an open mind, a bottle of water (refills are available at the studio), and a  yoga mat. If you don’t have a mat, no worries, our yoga studio has loaner mats available.  Wear clothing that is flexible and will move with you while keeping you covered. Avoid any restrictive or uncomfortable garments as they can be distracting and take you out of the moment. Instead, opt for fitted designs with plenty of stretch in fabrics that are soft and breathable, such cotton, bamboo or jersey. Avoid things like loose fitting shorts and overly baggy tops.

Why is the studio heated?

Many of our yoga classes are practiced in a heated room. The warm temperature stretches muscle fibers and tendons to help prevent injuries as you work out. It also increases circulation throughout the body, enhances immune system function and encourages tissue repair. These yoga classes do feel more challenging because of the added heat, which is why we encourage you to pace yourself and determine the intensity that works best for you.

What should I expect?

  1. You will not nail all of the poses, and that is okay!  Be okay with doing what you can.
  2. You will be touched -Instructors will give you feel good assists, so be prepared.
  3. Leave your ego at the door - the number one reason people get hurt is when they try to do something their body isn't ready for yet. You know your body better than anyone else, so if something feels wrong, it probably is.
  4. There will be a lot of breathing.
  5. Come with an open mind.

What if I'm not flexible?

Yoga actually promotes flexibility. You don’t have to be flexible to start doing yoga. During the workday, much of our activity or, lack there of, shortens muscles. Think about how often you either sit at a desk, in your car or at home. Yoga lengthens and expands muscles while helping you release toxins that build up in your body over time. Becoming more flexible is a great benefit of yoga, but the ultimate goal is to live more powerfully in mind, body and spirit. This gain happens regardless of whether or not you can touch your toes!

What class should I start with if I'm new to yoga?

We believe in the philosophy that YOU ARE READY NOW. You can begin with any of our classes. The important thing is to listen to your body, rest when you need to rest, and only do what feels good!

How to Prepare

Arrive Early

This gives your mind and body a chance to get centered before the start of class. Be aware that arriving late to class is a disruption to other students, so if you do come late please try to be as quiet as possible.

Please Silence Phones and Other Electronics

Luminous Yoga Studio offers clients the rare opportunity to relax in a calm, quiet environment with no disruptions or distractions. Please help us maintain this peaceful atmosphere by silencing phones and limiting disruptive conversations.

Remove Your Shoes

Kindly remove your shoes upon entering the studio. Cubbies are available to place all of your personal belongings (including shoes) for the duration of class. This keeps the floor as clean as possible and prevents anyone from stepping on things that are tracked in by shoes.

Use of Essential Oils

Occasionally, we will use essential oils or scented towels as a treat during the final resting pose of practice. If you do not wish to receive these items, simply say "no thank you" when the teacher approaches you.
